A scientific expedition comes to grief after unearthing the archaeological remains of an unknown species in the frozen wastes at the bottom of the world.

Amongst the survivors, Professor William Dyer pens letters urging Miskatonic University not to send more explorers to what he describes as mountains of madness.

But Dyer doesn’t dare tell the entire story.

On certain subjects he choses to keep particularly quietfor fear of exposing, and therefore causing to take action– other evils which lurk within their midst. And there are events that took place in those mountainsdark and disturbing, deeply personal, and embarrassingthat would incriminate both himself and surviving graduate student, Emerson Danforth. Events that could destroy his career, and leave his life in ruins.

Events that now must be told.
